The project consisted in the total reconstruction of a multi-purpose sports field with about 600 square meters for the practice of school sports activities such as basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball and handball, and also includes a fully equipped recreational area for pre-school children.

The implementation of this project aims to develop the educational and physical skills of students with the goal of improving their academic performance while reducing dropout rates. The inclusion of sports activities in the curriculum will enable an inclusive, equitable and quality education, thus contributing to the expansion of learning opportunities.

These facilities will benefit about 500 students from ADPP - Children's Citadel and all children living in the surrounding communities. With this initiative, Eni Rovuma Basin intends to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDG 3 - Good health and well-being, and SDG 4 - Quality education.

Birgit Holm, Executive Director of ADPP, mentioned that both ADPP as well as the partner Eni see sport as a fundamental part in the development of children.

"Education is the basis for the development of the country and this includes the intellectual as well as the physical part. Sport is fundamental for a child to develop. Besides moving and getting healthy, they learn to work as a team. The partnership between Eni and ADPP dates back to 2020 in Cabo Delgado where 3700 children are benefited in two elementary school and three pre-schools," he said.

Giorgio Vicini, General Manager of Eni Rovuma Basin, said that this project aims to develop the educational and physical skills of the students with the aim of improving their academic performance and at the same time reduce dropout rates.

"The inclusion of sports activities in the curriculum will allow for an inclusive, equitable and quality education, thus contributing to the expansion of learning opportunities," he said.

In turn, Américo Tomás, Director of the school, mentioned that the sports infrastructure will create opportunities and sports values in various modalities.

The project is operated by Eni Rovuma Basin on behalf of the Area 4 partners, namely Eni, ExxonMobil, CNPC, Galp, KOGAS and ENH.
