2020-03-11

ADPP in partnership with the World Jewish Relief and Action Aid with financial support from the “Start Fund” is implementing a project called “Emergency Response to floods in Sofala in 2020” which aims to support the communities affected by heavy rains that affected the regions of nhamatanda, Maringue, Gorongosa, Buzi and Caia Cheringoma in Sofala province, leading to floods that hit 14,319 families.

The project is supporting 1,900 families that have been displaced and have no access to basic items or sources of income targeting vulnerable groups, women (especially pregnant women and households headed by women), children, disabled and elderly.

Through this project, ADPP is distributing 1,500 food kits that include rice, beans, oil, salt and sugar. Also, will distribute kits of water / sanitation and hygiene for 400 families in Maríngue at high risk of waterborne diseases. This will include mosquito nets and water purification networks.

For women and girls ADPP and its partners are distributing dignity kits with essential hygiene items specifically for women. These include capulanas, soap, toothpaste, sanitary napkins, underwear and other buckets.

It should be noted that since the last year during the passage of Cyclone IDAI, ADPP has been working with the World Jewish Relief in emergencies.
