Development Instructors (DIs) - our international volunteers

The basic idea of the Development Instructor program is to open the possibility for everyone to contribute to development on the ground of Solidary Humanism. The Development Instructor (DI) is an International Volunteer.

For the past 30 years, the International Volunteers system of Humana People to People has been a significant, practical and ideological expression of the “From People to People” philosophy of the movement. The basic idea of the Development Instructor program is to open the possibility for everyone to contribute to development on the ground of Solidary Humanism.

Thousands of people of varied ages, have given their time as Development Instructors or Poverty Fighters, using all their skills and capacities, and building new ones at the same time. The volunteers prepare themselves for 4-6 months, work at a project for 4-6 months, and end with 1-2 month of evaluation, information work and decision about their future plans.

The training of DIs takes place in a number of training institutes that work together with Humana People to People. These are placed in Europe, USA, South Africa, India and China.

During their time at the development projects of the Humana People to People members, the DIs work closely with people at the project and with the leadership of the project. The DIs bring new ideas and international spirit to the project. Often the DIs are the ones spearheading new initiatives in the projects.
