ADPP celebrates the successes of the TCE 3 year program
TCE Mozambique Field Officers Gathering was held on 14 and 15 October 2010 in Chimoio, Manica province. The event took place to celebrate the end of the TCE 3 year program which covered the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambezia, Sofala, Manica and Maputo. The event was at the same time the official closing of the program with our partners.
The program has been implemented during the last 3 years in 14 areas with funding from PEPFAR and USDA in the six provinces of the country. The program was designed to reach 100.000 people individually in each target area. The TCE program is based on the idea that “Only the People Can Liberate Themselves from HIV/AIDS, the Epidemic”.
Supported by USDA, this program covered 7 districts in Manica with ONE to ONE interactions/visits in order to promote change of behaviour. A total of 2.010.845 visits were carried out to the target population of 714.342 people. Using one to one counselling 105.155 people were mobilized for HIV/AIDS test, 510.720 people had individual planning for risk reduction. During this period 16.202.013 condoms were distributed. 35.527 Passionates supported Field Officers in their work, 36.163 pregnant women were mobilized for prevention of parent to child transmission program and they were HIV tested. Field Officers gave 43.027 classes to different community groups, covering 716.231 people.
During this period TCE has been also supported by PEPFAR in Maputo, Sofala, Manica, Zambézia, Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces with one to one interactions/visits in the community and through some specific interventions for teachers. Through this program 1.904.464 visits were carried out targeting 623.337 people. 114.770 people were mobilized for HIV test. 441.534 people have made individual plans for HIV risk reduction and 15.155.206 condoms have been distributed. 30.574 Passionates supported field officers in their work. 39.130 pregnant women were mobilized for prevention of parent to child transmission program and they were HIV tested. Field Officers gave 40.233 classes to different community groups where 814.014 people have participated. 1.151 teachers in service and 1.265 under training were trained on HIV/AIDS prevention methods to be used in the health curriculum in the classroom.
This celebration took place in an environment of happiness and a unity among all participants. Field Officers, TCE Passionates and communities have been working together for 3 years, having countless meetings, training, events and sharing experiences; and although the program has ended in these areas, without a doubt the spirit of TCE will continue!
