Bio fuel from Bilibiza
A partnership between ADPP Mozambique, FACT (Fuels from Agriculture and Communal Technology) and the Ministry of Agriculture is trying to give an alternative to the high prices of fuel.
Farmers from 36 communities of Cabo Delgado have been mobilized to cultivate jatropha in a 4 years project that wants to produce bio fuel for local consumption.
The pure vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of jatropha will be used for modified diesel engines, for soap productions and for domestic illumination. The bio fuel will be used for internal combustion engines.
The Bilibiza Bio Fuel Center has been inaugurated in year 2010. The center includes a new building which is used as a factory, workshop and storeroom for jatropha processing. The generator has been modified to run on jatropha oil and for delivering energy to the presses. The jatropha oil is used: as fuel, for soap production and for pesticides. The vehicle at the project and maize mill at the center are also modified to run on jatropha oil.
