I want to continue to study and become a teacher in the future
-says Gervásia Orlando, a girl who came back to school after dropping out to take care of her grandmother
“I’m glad because I came back to school. My godmothers have been helping me a lot with my homework. I want to continue to study and become a teacher in the future to teach other children” – says Gervasia.
Gervásia Orlando is a 9-year-old girl from Namacurra District in Zambezia Province. Alike many other girls at her age she dropped out from school because of domestic work and, above all, to take care of her grandmother, Esménia. Because of lack of support at home and lack of adequate nutrition, Gervásia wasn’t able to attend school regularly. Her results at school were getting worse and worse and eventually she gave up.The Nikhalamo project supported her to go back to school and linked her to trained godmothers for continuous support.
