Teacher Training College Niassa
The College started in 1998 in the buildings of a former military camp. In 1999, the Irish Embassy financed the construction of new buildings. The College moved into the new buildings in July 2001. The College was officially inaugurated by H.E President of Mozambique, Joaquim Alberto Chissano, on the 26th of September 2001 with a big celebration.
The idea of the project is to train primary school teachers who are prepared and willing to take an active role in the development of the rural schools and communities by teaching in the primary schools (1st to 7th grade).
The project reaches out to existing teachers as well as graduated ones with the desire to develop the country through education. Together with the graduated teachers, we reach thousands of children, their parents and the communities in which they live and work.
TTC Niassa has graduated so far 1,507 teachers of the future of which 36% are women and 64% male.
