Ants of the Future Chimoio
The “Ants of the Future” of Chimoio is a primary school (grades 1-7) for vulnerable children. It is located in the neighbourhood of Nhamatsane in Chimoio, in the central Province of Manica.
The “Ants of the Future” Primary School is a semi-boarding primary school established by ADPP Mozambique soon after the civil war in 1993 to help local disadvantaged and vulnerable children. The majority of the school’s pupils are either orphans or street children. In addition to the national primary school curriculum, the educational program of the “Ants of the Future” Primary School includes various extra-curricular activities and life skills, including arts, pottery, tapestry, culture, sports and various activities related to agriculture and livestock.
The teaching method used at the school is the same as in the ADPP Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs): DMM, or, Doctrine of Modern Methods. Through this method, children are challenged to take an active role in their own learning process.
